Tuberculosis (TB) spreads through the air when a person with lung TB coughs or sneezes.
What we found
TB germs go into the air when a person with TB in the lungs coughs, sneezes or spits. Other people can breathe them in.
Why we gave this result
WHO says TB spreads through the air when people with TB cough, sneeze or spit. CDC and the NHS describe spread by germs or droplets released when a person with active TB coughs.
Keep in mind: The NHS says you usually catch TB only by breathing in the germs regularly over a long time, so it is not easy to catch.
